Good Cycles’ Youth Employment Program (YEP) is a flexible, strengths-based model that supports young people to overcome barriers to employment. At its core, the YEP meets young people ‘where they are at’ and provides them with opportunities to learn by doing in a supportive and inclusive work environment. Through the YEP, young people are given real work in one of Good Cycles’ service offerings. Youth coaches play an important role in the YEP by providing feedback, support, and career development opportunities to the participants.
The independent evaluation of Good Cycle's Youth Employment Program (YEP), undertaken by Think Impact, cites YEP's provision of real work, flexibility, coaching support, development opportunities, and an inclusive culture, as key to delivering outcomes for young people includng improved financial wellbeing, improved mental health, and an increased sense of belonging.
Overall, the YEP has produced $3.9 million of social value across the 40 participants in the program, and incurs $12,684 of impact costs per participant per annum.
In addition to the evaluation, Good Cycles and Think Impact developed a Good Practice Guide, which details simple steps for WISEs (work integration social enterprises) to measure their impact.
