Gawooleng Yawoodeng Aboriginal Corporation

Gawooleng Yawoodeng Aboriginal Corporation is a women's shelter and support service that provides a safe house and services to women experiencing family violence and their families in the Kununurra area. Led by a board of strong and proud Indigenous women, GY takes a family-focused holistic approach to addressing family violence within a culturally appropriate context. As GY also supports the local Indigenous women's Lore and Culture, holding significant items on site the refuge is a very safe space for women and children both within a mainstream structure and local Indigenous Lore. The inspiration behind the programs run from GY is that they are developed through grass roots community members with their ideas and visions heard.

What are we doing?

Stronger Families and Strong Women's Program

Purchase of capital infrastructure to use as a culturally sensitive venue to run Early Intervention, Primary Prevention and Family Support programs for Indigenous women and their families. The property is located next door to our purpose built refuge and will enable safe and easy access for program support to not only external clients but also the women and children staying within the refuge setting.
