As part of the Impact group, Melanie’s work advances the ways in which data is used to help end cycles of disadvantage.
Her career has focussed on increasing the use and understanding of data to help the environment and improve people’s lives; whether through real-time predictive flood modelling, measuring the impact of education or establishing data pipelines to support the Government's COVID-19 response.
Before joining the Foundation, Melanie worked with the NSW Department of Education across diverse roles. Her work centred on translating data into actionable insights and uplifting the Department's data maturity to improve educational outcomes for all public-school students in NSW.
Melanie holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering and DPhil in statistical hydrology, and is currently finalising her MBA with the University of Sydney. Her doctorate focussed on investigating the uncertainties in flood modelling using stochastic data analytics.
She loves the great outdoors, having grown up in the Blue Mountains, and spends most weekends gardening or bushwalking.
